Travel
Alonissos has kept its unspoilt charm because it does not have an airport. It remains a well-kept secret, off the beaten track.
You can fly to Skiathos, Athens or Thessaloniki and travel onwards to the luxury villa you have rented from there. Flight times are all approximately 3 ½ hours.
The following websites will help you find flights:
Onward journey from Skiathos
Flying to Skiathos is the most direct option. Transfers from Skiathos to Alonissos take 1 hour 20 minutes by Flying Cat (a high-speed catamaran service).
Onward journeys from Athens
Flying to Athens gives you several onward options.
You can take an internal flight to Skiathos, then take the Flying Cat trip as above. The flight time is around 30 minutes and the cost around €65.
Agios Konstantinos is the mainland port for departure to Alonissos. A taxi from the airport to Agios Konstantinos takes around 2 hours and costs in the region of €150 – €180. A bus takes around 2 ½ hours and costs about €13. From Agios Konstantinos, a Flying Cat to Alonissos takes around 3 hours and costs around €42.
Onward journeys from Thessalonika
From Thessaloniki you need to take the bus or a taxis down the coast to Volos which is the mainland port for departure to Alonissos. This takes approximately two hours. It is quite a scenic, interesting route. From Volos there is a choice of hydrofoil or ferry onto Alonissos which is approximately 3 – 5 hours depending on the transport chosen.
Both Volos and Thessaloniki are interesting cities and well worth spending an overnight in.
